About Tyla Skye
A little bit about me
I lived in South Africa for the first 28 years of my life and it’s a huge part of who I am. Growing up in such a gorgeous tropical climate and the incredible indiginous animals were always a great source of inspiration for me. I studied in South Africa for a degree in art & graphic design and I’m also a qualified photographer. All these skills enable me to understand composition, form and light which are the foundations of art. I learned all the rules and the further I get into my art career the more I break the rules in search of my personal style.
I’ve been living in Manchester, UK, for 2 years now and I often like to draw inspiration from my new home too. Who doesn’t love English roses, bees and all the other indigenous plants & animals!
My style differs between mediums and I’m always refining and pushing the boundaries of my style.
I’d describe my style as illustrated, impressionist realism (if there is such a thing!). I love seeing the brush strokes and texture of the paint. Sometimes I like to paint more realistic and sometimes I don’t. It depends on the brief, subject & my mood.
